Every guide page on this site carries a "facts last verified" date. That date means a person went through the page, checked the claims that change, and re-dated it. It is not a promise that nothing has shifted since.
For area, access and rules pages, we work from primary sources first: Walton County's own beach access and permit pages, Visit South Walton, the South Walton Fire District, Florida State Parks, and each town or resort where the detail lives with them. We use local publications like SoWal and 30A.com to cross-check, and when a listing is a business rather than a rule, we treat it as the first thing to go stale.
For live conditions, flag status, surf height, water temperature, wind and UV come from the South Walton Fire District, NOAA, the National Weather Service and Open-Meteo, refreshed daily. The flags page and surf page are the ones to check on the morning of a beach day.
Beaches change. A parking lot gets a fee, a dune walkover closes for renourishment, a county tightens its dog rules, a restaurant closes in the off-season, a state park suspends kayak rentals while it finds a new operator. Our pages are snapshots of what was true on the date stamped on them.
There is also a plain human risk. Two public sources can disagree about the same address, and one of them can be years out of date. When they conflict we pick the source closest to the property and note the uncertainty on the page rather than guessing quietly.
If something on a page does not match what you're standing in front of, tell us. The most useful thing you can send:
We read these, check the claim against the current source, and update the page with a fresh verification date. We will not always be able to reply, but every correction gets looked at.
We are opening a contact page shortly so corrections can be sent through the site. Until it is up, corrections can be sent through the contact options listed on our privacy policy page, and anything safety-related should go to local beach safety officials first.
BeachUpdates is an independent guide. We are not Walton County, not the Fire District, and not a lifeguard service. Flags and warning notices are set by local beach safety officials, and those always outrank anything on this site. For anything safety-related, read the disclaimer and trust the person with the whistle.
Where we link to a business, a rental, a tour operator or a state park, that is information, not sponsorship.
What's allowed on the sand, by county.
Free and paid lots along the coast.
The live one, not the guide.
Safety and liability, plain.
