Destin is a city in Okaloosa County, Florida, on the Emerald Coast, sitting on a peninsula between Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf, with the East Pass at the western end. It is not in Walton County, so its beach rules, flags and parking differ from Miramar Beach and the 30A towns next door. Destin has 13 public beach access points. Most city beach parking is $20 for four hours on the Destin Park & Play system (QR code or text, residents free with a pass), but James Lee Park at 3510 Scenic Hwy 98 is free with 170 spaces, and Henderson Beach State Park charges $6 per vehicle and requires an advance reservation booked up to 60 days out.

🏖️ What Destin is actually like
Destin gets judged by people who came once, in July, and sat in traffic. That's the wrong read. The place is a working harbor town that happens to have world-class sand, and the harbor is the half people skip. Watch the charter fleet come in at the docks off Harbor Boulevard in the late afternoon, watch them clean fish, and you understand why this town exists. The beach is the bonus.
The beach itself is the widest, whitest stretch on this whole coastline, and it's split in a way that actually matters: Okaloosa on one side, Walton on the other, with different flags and different parking. Destin charges $20 for four hours in the city lots. Cross into Miramar and parking's free. That's not a small detail if you're hauling kids and coolers, and almost nobody tells you before you go. James Lee Park is the free one, 170 spaces, right on the edge of town, and it's where locals go when they don't want to pay.

Is Destin in Walton County?
No. Destin is in Okaloosa County. Miramar Beach, which borders it, is Walton County. Flags, dog rules and parking all change at that line.
Do you have to pay for beach parking in Destin?

Harbor Boulevard has the seafood houses and the charter docks, and Restaurant Row on US 98 has the bigger names. The Back Porch at 1740 Scenic Hwy 98 is a long-standing local pick right by Calhoun Beach Access.
Can you swim at Norriego Point?
Yes, and it's a favorite for families because the East Pass side has calmer tide pools. Parking is $20 for four hours and there are restrooms. Check tide and current; the Pass moves a lot of water.
