A beach front reef near the Crab Trap
The Crab Trap Reef is an artificial reef placed in the Gulf right off the beach near the well known Crab Trap area of Destin. It sits close enough to the shore that on a calm day you can swim out to it or paddle out on a board or kayak. It's one of the beach reachable reefs in the Destin area, popular with families and casual snorkelers because you don't need a boat to enjoy it.
The structures hold plenty of life, with small snapper, sergeant majors and other Gulf fish gathering around the reef for shelter and food. It's a relaxed, easy reef to visit when the water is flat and clear.
