Where the Gulf meets the harbor
The Destin jetties and the East Pass are where the harbor meets the Gulf, and the rocky jetties themselves act as a natural reef that holds fish, crabs and an interesting mix of marine life. On calm days it's a favorite close-in spot for snorkelers, and the nearby shallows and tide pools along the pass are a gentle place to explore for beginners and kids.
This is part of the Destin Fort Walton Beach artificial reef story too. The East Pass area sees strong current as water moves between the Gulf and the bay, so it's best on a very calm day, and the boat traffic means you stay aware and close to the protected shallows.
