Dune Allen Beach is the westernmost community on Scenic Highway 30A in Walton County, Florida, sitting at the west end of the corridor where 30A meets US Highway 98 near Sandestin. It has two Walton County regional beach accesses: Dune Allen Regional Beach Access at 5999 W Co Hwy 30A (22 standard spaces plus 4 low-speed-vehicle spaces, restrooms, ADA compatible, free) and Ft. Panic Regional Beach Access at 5753 W Co Hwy 30A (27 spaces, restrooms, ADA compatible, free). 🏖️ What Dune Allen is actually like
Dune Allen is what 30A looks like before you've entered the postcard. Coming from Destin or Sandestin, it's the first place the road narrows, the first place you see a dune lake instead of a condominium, and the first place parking is free. Most people drive past it to get to Grayton or Seaside. That's a mistake, because the beach here is just as good and the lots are twice the size of the ones further east.
The lakes are the thing to understand. Oyster Lake, Lake Allen and Stallworth Lake all sit behind the beach, and each one opens to the Gulf occasionally through an outfall. When they open, the water in the lake turns brackish and the beach in front of it gets that tea-colored stain that looks strange in photos but is completely normal. Ft. Panic's 27 spaces and Dune Allen's 22 plus 4 are the two real lots. West end of the corridor, free parking, no crowd. That's the whole pitch.
