Silver Sands is the outlet center for this stretch of coast, and it is big enough that it does not feel like a strip mall pretending to be one. More than a hundred stores, from Tory Burch and Coach down to Crocs and Vans, so the trip works whether you are shopping for a handbag or for a pair of sandals you will destroy at the beach.
It is a big center with a lot of stores, and that is the point of it. More than a hundred, which is enough that there is always something to catch your eye whether you came for something specific or not. Everything is walking distance, the sidewalks are covered, and there are public restrooms, so an afternoon here is easy to handle on foot. End to end is a real walk because there is so much of it, but the lot wraps the whole center, so you can park near the entrance you need and move on.
The layout helps too. The sidewalks are covered, so you can move between stores in the shade, and there are public restrooms where you need them. There is a children's play area, which is the difference between a shopping trip that survives a kid and one that doesn't.
Food is better than most outlets manage. Carrabba's is a real sit-down dinner, Big Bad Breakfast is the breakfast you would drive across town for anyway, and the snack stands, Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, Haagen-Dazs, do the heavy lifting with kids. Holiday season is the busiest it gets, Black Friday opens at six in the morning, and in December the place stays open later on purpose.
10562 Emerald Coast Parkway West, Destin, FL 32550, just off US 98 and about one mile west of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Practically, that puts it between Destin and Miramar Beach, which is why both towns claim it.
Monday through Saturday 10am to 8pm, Sunday 11am to 7pm. Holiday hours stretch out: Black Friday opens at 6am and runs to 9pm, December weekends go to 9pm, Christmas Eve is 9am to 6pm, and the center is closed on Thanksgiving. Individual stores can differ slightly.
More than a hundred. It is the biggest concentration of outlet shopping on the Emerald Coast, and the brands are the reason people drive here: Tory Burch, Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, J.Crew, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, Disney Store Outlet, Ulta and Le Creuset, among a lot more.
Yes. The lot wraps the whole center, so you can pull up close to the store you came for. Everything is walking distance, the sidewalks are covered, and there are public restrooms. It is a large center with a lot of stores, so walking end to end is a real walk, but you can move the car to whichever entrance you need.
Outdoor, with covered sidewalks, so you can move between stores in the shade and stay out of the sun. Everything is walking distance and there are public restrooms on site.
Better than most outlet malls because there is a children's play area, so a shopping trip can survive a kid for an hour or two. There is also ice cream, pretzels and cinnamon rolls, which buy you another twenty minutes.
Carrabba's Italian Grill for a sit-down dinner, Big Bad Breakfast and Waldo's Chicken and Beer for something more casual, Paris Banh Mi Cafe for a sandwich, and the usual outlet-center snacks: Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, Haagen-Dazs. Kitchen & Creamery covers the sweets end.
No, different centers with different jobs. Silver Sands is built around outlet stores. Destin Commons is an open-air center with restaurants, a cinema, bowling, a splash pad and a playground alongside the shops. They are close enough that people often do both on the same trip, and most treat them as two separate stops rather than picking one.
It is an outdoor center, and leashed dogs are generally fine on the walkways, but individual stores set their own rules. Check before you go into a shop, and keep the dog out of the children's play area.
Weekday mornings are quietest and the best light. Weekends and holiday season are the busiest, and Black Friday is genuinely a scene. In summer, go early, because the covered sidewalks help but an outdoor center in July is still hot by midday.
If you want outlet prices on brands you already know, yes, and there is no real competition nearby. If you want a full afternoon with dining and entertainment built in, Destin Commons is closer to that. Both are within a few minutes of each other, so most people work out which they want before they leave the condo.
