🏖️ What Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is actually like
Topsail is the park people don't understand until they get there. You turn in off 30A, park in a lot, and there's no ocean. There's a trail and a tram stop. The beach is a mile and a half away through the dunes, and the tram runs it back and forth. Families who don't know that show up with the cooler, the umbrella and three kids, walk a quarter mile, and turn around. Families who do know it settle in for a full day, because the beach at the end of that ride is the emptiest sand on this whole coast.
The other thing is the camping. Topsail has full hookups and cabins, which is rare on 30A, and the dune lakes behind the sites are why the park exists at all. Campbell, Morris and Stallworth are three of the coastal dune lakes, and when the outfalls open the water turns brackish and the fishing changes. Six bucks a car and a tram ride to a beach with nobody on it is the best deal on the Emerald Coast.
